Naoto Fukasawa

Naoto Fukasawa, a celebrated product designer, is known for his pursuit of simplicity and elegance in his designs, he has worked with several globally recognized brands and prominent Japanese companies, showcasing his creativity in diverse industries such as precision electronics, furniture, and interior design. Throughout his career, Fukasawa has received numerous awards for his work as a designer, and his creations have been featured in the permanent collections of prestigious museums such as the MoMa in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Designmuseum Danmark. In recognition of his achievements, he was awarded the title of Honorable Royal Designer for Industry by the UK Royal Society of Arts in 2007. He has also served as a member of the Loewe Craft Prize jury and currently holds a position as professor in the Integrated Design department at Tama Art University.

In collaboration with Jasper Morrison, Fukasawa established the “Super Normal” project in 2006, furthermore he is also the co-author of The Outline -The Unseen Outline of Things, a volume published by Hachette Fujingaho, featuring photographs by Tamotsu Fujii; additionally, he has released two books with Phaidon Press, Naoto Fukasawa: Embodiment, the latter of which was released in Spring 2018. In 2009 the designer planned the elegantly asymmetrical, Awa, a versatile object, a side table to be placed wherever a support surface is needed, available in hard polyurethane in many satin and glossy colours that bring an energy boost to any room and style. Since 2021, Naoto Fukasawa has been holding the position of curator at The Japan Folk Crafts Museum in Tokyo, thereby enhancing his influence within the design community, with his creative and sophisticated designs and contributions to design education, Fukasawa has cemented his status as a widely respected and influential figure in the realm of product design.
